Saint Joseph's University First Annual National Day of Service

NDOSSaturday, May 17 and 31, 2008

As men and women for others, we are called to serve our neighbors as part of the Jesuit tradition.  Today, we announce a new tradition for Hawks of all ages –

What is National Day of Service?  Simply put, SJU alumni and students will conduct a day of service in multiple cities across the United States on the same day.  Many corporations have done this with great success and we see this as a strong opportunity for us Hawks to spread our wings in our communities.  We're also excited that all four cities will be inviting alumni, current students and prospective students.

This year the pilot sites for 2008 include Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Chicago, and Northern, N.J./New York City and we have a committee of 15 alumni committed to creating an impact.  Dan Gallagher '94 and Pat McGrory '99 will lead the Philadelphia team as we clean Bodine High School in University City.  Katie Boone '75 is leading the two Washington, D.C. teams in serving at food banks (one in Alexandria and one in D.C. proper).  John Brennan '69 will be the site leader in Chicago and Deb Coughlin '75 will lead the team in New York on an alternate date (May 31)

Save the date and become a part of a new tradition that epitomizes what it means to be a Hawk.  For more information, please contact Jessica Dustman at jdustman@sju.edu or 610-660-3294.  A $10 registration fee includes a National Day of Service t-shirt.

Thanks for your involvement and feel free to share this special event with your network of Hawks.  It's traditions like this that will ensure The Hawk Will Never Die!
