SJU Alumni Relations is excited to recognize one of our dedicated alumni each month for their efforts and contributions. This month, we sat down with Bobby Gallagher ’98 MS ’99 to ask him a few questions about being an alumni volunteer:
Please provide a quick background on your time at SJU (Class year, major, activities/involvement, residence/commuting experience, etc.):
Graduated in 1998 with BS in Marketing; MS in International Marketing in 1999
Study tours in Spain (97) and Asia – Hong Kong, Thailand, and Singapore (99)
Manager on Men’s basketball team from 1995-1998; ‘The Hawk’ for 1997-98 season
Lived in McShain freshman and sophomore years; lived in Wynnewood junior year; off campus housing senior year
Where you are now?
Live in East Falls, Philadelphia – bought my home in 2004 – I love East Falls!
Work for Elemica Inc (Exton, PA) as a Sales Director since 2008. Supply Chain integration software and services – officially our platform is called Supply Chain Operating Network (SCON) and our top clients include Dow, DuPont, BASF, Goodyear and Michelin. I truly enjoy my “work” and that is a testament to the people I work with every day; we are a fast growing company so truly exciting times to be at Elemica right now!
What inspired you to volunteer with the SJU Alumni Association?
Strong family connection to SJU. My grandfather attended – he was a catcher on the baseball team, played on the golf team, and named St. Joe’s “The Hawks” via an essay contest through the student newspaper at that time. My father and late Uncle Jack attended, along with my cousin Mike, several second cousins, etc. I genuinely loved my time on Hawk Hill. It went by so fast – I met so many great people which allowed me to build lasting relationships and memories that will last forever.
I enjoy working with our Alumni Association, fellow Alums, current and prospective students, etc – it is a great opportunity to have lots of fun with fellow Hawks and contribute my time and energy to help the SJU community in any way I can.
What is your favorite part of being an alumnus?
Running into old friends. I recently made my 5th trip to Puerto Rico and was able to spend some time with several classmates who hail from that great and beautiful island!
A close second – the annual SJU Alumni Golf Outing
(which SJU kindly named after my Uncle Jack). It is just a great day to catch up with family and friends, play bad golf, drink cold beer, share funny stories, and support a great SJU-related cause which changes every year.
Why do you recommend getting involved to other alumni?
Why would you NOT?? Our Alumni community is made up of extremely kind, intelligent, and inspiring people (and me!) Each Hawk Alum brings something unique to events, conversations, and experiences – the more the merrier!
