The Alumni Gala is the signature event of Saint Joseph’s Alumni Association and an opportunity to spend an evening with old and new friends.
At this annual event, the University presents the Shield of Loyola,
the most prestigious honor bestowed by the Alumni Association. The
recipient is a distinguished alumnus or alumna who has had remarkable
success in his or her profession, whose life reflects the values of St.

The recipient of the 2014 Shield of Loyola, Joseph J. Oakes, III '64 is president of Acorn Financial Services, a leading life insurance and financial services firm, based in N.J. His sons, Joseph IV and William, are also Hawks from the Class of '94 and '98 respectively. A former Trustee of Saint Joseph's University, Joe also serves on the Haub School Board of Visitors. He has also co-chaired the Committee for the President's Cup Invitational, a golf outing that helps raise scholarship funds for the University's presidential scholars. An avid Saint Joseph's Hawks basketball fan, Joe is a season ticket holder who can often be seen cheering on the team.
This is a great event to enjoy an evening with
fellow alumni while we recognize and celebrate those who embody Jesuit
ideals and are committed to furthering SJU’s mission. Proceeds from the Alumni Gala support our students through the Shield of Loyola Scholarship Fund.
