Anita Gallagher Kelly ’77 and Jack Kelly ’77 Named Hogan Award Honorees

PHILADELPHIA (July 21, 2017) – Anita Gallagher Kelly and Jack Kelly, from the Saint Joseph’s University Class of 1977, have been named the SJU Alumni Association’s 2017 recipients of the Reverend Joseph S. Hogan, S.J., Award. The Kellys are the first couple to be honored with the award, which they will receive at the Leadership Awards Dinner (LAD) Thursday, Nov. 2 at the Loews Philadelphia Hotel in Center City. Ardent University supporters through philanthropy and volunteerism, the Kellys have served in numerous University-related service positions, including co-chairing the Barbelin Society, the University’s annual leadership giving society. They continue to belong to the Barbelin Society and have been long-time men’s basketball season ticket holders and Hawk Athletic Fund supporters for years.

Anita Gallagher Kelly is a former member of the national alumni board, the alumni association’s governing body, and the Women’s Leadership Council. She graduated with a degree in accounting and is a certified public accountant who has worked in different capacities related to accounting, including public accounting, internal auditing and accounting software.  She is employed by the Emerson Group in Wayne, Pennsylvania.

As a past president of the Darby, Pennsylvania-based Women’s Auxiliary of Saint Francis Country House, she facilitated a group of women involved and committed to provide better quality of life for the residents of St. Francis Country House, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia’s oldest nursing home (until its sale by the Archdiocese in 2014). As a board member at Saint Francis, Gallagher Kelly works to enhance the lives of the residents of Holy Family Home in West Philadelphia.

President of KG Associates, a suburban Philadelphia management consulting practice focusing on the food industry, Jack Kelly was a 2015 inductee into SJU’s Academy of Food Marketing Hall of Honor. He sits on the Academy’s board of governors and has taught food marketing Executive MBA courses in the Haub School of Business. A regular speaker in undergraduate Food Marketing classes, Kelly is also a member of the Academy’s non-profit Food Marketing Educational Foundation. Before launching KG Associates, Kelly worked in sales management and marketing positions at Campbell Soup, Nestle Foods and John Labatt.

Kelly is past president and current board member of Philadelphia’s historic Catholic Philopatrian Literary Institute, and a board member of the Irish American Business Chamber Network, a nonpartisan business organization promoting the interests of its members and the development of economic and educational relationships between the United States, Ireland and Northern Ireland. 

The Kellys are active members of St. Katharine of Siena parish in Wayne, Pennsylvania. They have served in leadership positions for the home and school association of Saint Katharine’s and The Academy of Notre Dame de Namur. Both have participated in various church-related volunteer organizations and are involved with numerous fundraising events for their many interests. The couple resides in Villanova, Pennsylvania, and has two adult daughters, Caitlin Kelly ’06 and Mary Clare (Molly).

The Hogan Award is presented annually to those who exemplify Christian principles and outstanding, loyal service to the University. The Kellys join Dennis P. Sheehan, Esq. ’85, Charles Kahn Jr. Hon.D. ’08 and Jim McLaughlin ’70 as the most recent recipients of the Hogan Award, which is named after a dedicated priest, educator, alumnus and friend to countless students and alumni of Saint Joseph’s University.
