Community Service

A Saint Joseph’s education is deeply rooted in Christian faith, scholarship and service. Through our Alumni Service Program, we invite alumni and friends to engage in the Ignatian tradition of service with and for others by:

  • Fostering awareness of distinct areas of need
  • Promoting action for positive change within communities
  • Encouraging reflection to discern God in our world

Are you looking for:

  • meaningful service opportunities?
  • ongoing spiritual development?
  • social justice projects and advocacy?
  • involvement in local & regional Jesuit networks?

If yes, you may want to consider the alumni service initiatives made available by your alma mater, including these signature service experiences:

Global Community Day – On one morning each spring, Hawks around the globe serve their communities.

Alumni Appalachia Trip – Modeled after the student Appalachian Experience, each summer, alumni, family and friends travel to Phelps, KY, to work with Habitat for Humanity for a week.

You can also serve as a mentor for a student immersion trip or advise a student campus event.  For more information, contact Matt Fullmer in the Office of Campus Ministry at

As a Catholic and Jesuit university, SJU calls upon its graduates to contribute responsibly to building a more just world. And they never disappoint!

We encourage you to join others in the Saint Joseph’s community as we continue to foster the Ignatian ideals by reaching out in service to others. Our spiritual heritage, education and friendships are gifts to be shared with those most in need.
