Students lined up outside the Chapel of St. Joseph - Michael J. Smith, S.J. Memorial to join the early morning Global Community Day celebration inside.  
Students talked with University President C. Kevin Gillespie, S.J. '72 before the volunteer work began.

At Old St. Joseph's in Philadelphia, alumni assisted in preparing and serving food to men with problems such as addiction, homelessness, poverty, mental or emotional disorders, and spiritual emptiness.

Volunteers at Mercy Hospice in Philadelphia organized the donation room, painted, assembled furniture and cleaned the facility, outdoor play area and garden.   
Alumni in Atlanta (coordinated by Carla DeSisto '10; second from right) volunteered at the Jerusalem House, Inc., completing home improvement projects for homeless and low-income individuals, families and children affected by HIV/AIDS.   
Alumni in Bala Cynwyd, coordinated by Tom Weeks '77 (not pictured), helped The Woman's Club clean up the Bala Library -- inside and out.  
Alumni in Cincinnati, Ohio helped The Caring Place straighten and restock its pantry, clean, touch up paint and move shelves and furniture.

In New York City, alumni coordinated by Deb Coughlin '75 (second from left) helped restore East River Park to pre-Hurricane Sandy condition.  
Alumni in Washington D.C. (coordinated by Sarah Carroll '08) helped The Capital Area Food Bank build a garden where they will teach food education to people who are hungry.  
Alumni in West Chester, Pa., coordinated by Ken Lehr '90 (not pictured), rolled up their sleeves to clean up the Chester-Ridley-Crum Watershed.
